In May, this year I´ve visited Kovačica, the Serbian Metropole of the Naive Art. Beaufiful village with an unique Gallery established and opended in 1955, just behind the main square. Inside the building, I had the pleasure to meet the director of the museum, Marija Raspir who organised three meetings with three amazing artists: Maria Hlavati, Pavel Cicka and Jan Zolnaj. All of them are the naive art master, who are showing their amazing works in the museum and also in many galleries around the Europe. The inspirations of their work are mostly the nature, live & people in the village and the childhood scenes. Don´t miss this magic place, it´s just 54 km away from Belgrad.
„The aritistic achievements of Kovačica naive painters are unique, and we may even say a phenomenon. According to the themes and art expression, the experts rank the work of Kovačica painters to belong to the poetic-realistic expression period. Their paintings represent the ruric reality, but in a poetic way. The painters create magic pictures as seen in their childhood and youth, they are a part of their environment as they show people while working or resting on varios rural occasions connected with customs, tigthly bound to traditional folklore. This is the core of their artistic creation, mostly represented on oil paintings. Each of the painters happily found its own theme framework and artistic expression…“ Jan Cicka
